Astaxanthin is a carotenoid from freshwater microalgae (Haematococcus pluvialis) that has been cultivated using the crystal clear waters of the Himalayas. An antioxidant that the body cannot produce on its own, astaxanthin must come from foods or supplements. Similarly, the beta-carotene in this complex is derived from the algae Dunaliella Salina. Beta-carotene is a type of pigment found naturally in plants and in yellow and orange-red fruits and vegetables. Our bodies convert beta-carotene to vitamin A when needed, ensuring safe levels of this nutrient. In turn, vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and vision, as well as the normal functioning of the immune system.
The addition of grape seed (Vitis vinifera L.) provides a source of natural polyphenols and oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC). Standardized to 95% OPC, grape seed extract is an ideal source of beneficial bioflavonoids, making it a great all-around supplement to add to your summer routine.
